A visit to Ashraya, Kalayapuram

 A Visit to Ashraya

On 6th September 2024, our B.Ed. batch of 2024-26, along with Akhil Raj Sir, Sheeja Chacko Miss, Vismaya Miss, and Shijini Miss, visited Ashraya, an old age home in Kalayapuram, Kollam. Founded by Kalayapuram Jose in 1994, Ashraya houses around 1000 elderly residents from diverse backgrounds. This visit offered us profound insights into our own lives. The residents, as old as our grandparents, are well-educated and fluent in English, yet abandoned by their families. We donated money, clothes, and daily necessities to Ashraya. We entertained the residents with cultural programs, which they enjoyed immensely. The MSW students briefed us about Ashraya, and we left after a hearty lunch around 2:30 PM.
