Teaching practice - week 2

 Day 6

Today was a fulfilling day in my teaching journey. It began with line duty, ensuring students assembled in an orderly manner, setting a disciplined tone for the day. My lesson with Class 8 was particularly rewarding—students were enthusiastic, actively participating in discussions, answering questions, and connecting the lesson to real-life scenarios. Using reflective questions and peer discussions proved effective in deepening their engagement.

Later, I supervised students after their unit test, maintaining discipline as they exited the examination hall. The day ended at 4:15 pm, leaving me with a strong sense of accomplishment. This experience reinforced how small adjustments in teaching methods—like incorporating real-world connections—can significantly enhance learning. It also strengthened my confidence in classroom management and student interaction. Moving forward, I aim to integrate more collaborative activities to sustain student interest and make lessons even more dynamic.

Day 7

Today was another meaningful day in my teaching practice. I started with morning duties, including attendance and line duty, ensuring students entered school in an organized manner. During the 4th hour, I taught a lesson where students were highly engaged—they eagerly discussed questions and shared their perspectives, making the classroom atmosphere lively and interactive.

Since I didn’t have noon meal duty today, I enjoyed lunch at 12:45 pm with fellow trainees, exchanging insights about our teaching experiences. The day concluded at 4:45 pm after signing the evening attendance. Today reinforced the importance of student-centered teaching—when learners are given opportunities to express themselves, the lesson becomes more impactful. This experience has motivated me to continue refining my strategies to keep students actively involved in their learning journey.

Day - 8

Today’s teaching practice was different from the usual routine. Due to a unit test scheduled for the 6th and 7th hours, my planned class with 8th graders was postponed. Instead, I assisted in supervising the examination, ensuring a calm and focused environment for students. Watching them fully engaged in their test was a reminder of the importance of structured assessments in their academic growth.

After the exam ended at 3:45 pm, I helped manage student movement as they left the hall, ensuring discipline and order. The day concluded at 4:45 pm. Though I missed teaching today, this experience gave me valuable insight into exam supervision and the need for flexibility in a teacher’s schedule. It also highlighted how even non-teaching duties contribute to a well-functioning school environment.

Day 9

Today was a rewarding day that strengthened my confidence as a teacher. I began with line duty, ensuring students entered school in an orderly manner. Later, I taught Class 8, where interactive activities encouraged student participation and made the lesson engaging. The students responded well, showing curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the session.

In the afternoon, I took on noon meal duty, helping serve food and manage students efficiently. By 12:35 pm, all students had been served, and after completing my responsibilities, I had lunch at 1:55 pm. The day ended at 4:15 pm, leaving me with a sense of achievement. Today reinforced how discipline and engaging teaching methods go hand in hand to create a positive learning environment. It also reminded me of the importance of balancing classroom instruction with other school duties—a skill I’ll continue to refine as I grow in my teaching career.

Teaching Practice Day 6

Day - 6

A Day Dedicated to the Moon

Today marked the sixth day of my teaching practice at St. Mary’s HSS, Kizhakkekkara. I reached the school at 9:00 a.m. and signed the morning attendance before heading for my line duty. The atmosphere at school was vibrant and full of excitement, as it was being observed as Lunar Day.

I had my class during the 4th hour with Grade 8G. The session was lively and engaging, with students actively participating throughout. Later, a special speech was delivered on the significance of Lunar Day, highlighting the wonders of the moon and its importance in space exploration.

One of the most exciting events of the day was the arrangement of a telescope on the school premises, allowing students and teachers an opportunity to observe the moon. Unfortunately, due to cloudy and rainy weather, we couldn't view it as planned. Still, the spirit of the celebration remained high.

A beautiful ground art depicting Lunar Day was created near the telescope setup. We took several memorable pictures beside the artwork, capturing the enthusiasm of the day.

We had lunch at 12:45 p.m. and concluded the day by signing out at 4:17 p.m. Despite the weather, it was a fulfilling and joyful experience, blending learning with celebration.

My First week of Teaching Practice at St. Mary’s HSS, Kizhakkekara

Day 1 - 14/7/2025

Today marked the beginning of an exciting and unforgettable chapter in my journey as a teacher – my very first day of teaching practice at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Kizhakkekara.

We, a group of 22 teacher trainees, arrived at the school by 8:45 a.m., filled with anticipation and a little nervousness. We were warmly welcomed by Miss Rose Mary, a senior teacher at the school, who briefed us on the instructions and expectations for our teaching practice. Afterward, we met the Headmaster, who also shared valuable guidance and support for the upcoming days.

Following formalities, we handed over our attendance register and signed in for the morning session. The school had thoughtfully arranged a classroom where we could sit and prepare. I was assigned to teach Class 8 G, under the mentorship of Mr. Binil John, who would be guiding me throughout this journey.

I had the 4th hour in this class, and with Sir’s kind introduction, I stepped into the class for the first time. With a smile, I greeted the students and tried to build a friendly and respectful rapport. I then began teaching the inspiring chapter “Little Things Matter” by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The students responded with enthusiasm and curiosity, which encouraged me to give my best. I concluded the class by assigning a thoughtful follow-up activity.

Post lunch, we were asked to move to the top auditorium as our seating area was temporarily relocated. We settled there and continued our reflections and discussions about the day. At 4:15 p.m., we signed the attendance register once again and left the school, filled with the satisfaction and joy of having completed our first step in the teaching field.

This day will always hold a special place in my heart – a day of new beginnings, valuable experiences, and the start of a meaningful journey in education.

Day 2 - 16/7/2025

Today’s teaching practice was fulfilling. I reached school at 9:00 a.m. and signed the morning attendance before taking charge of line duty from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. During the 4th hour, I had class with 8G, where I taught the remaining portion of the chapter “Little Things Matter” by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The students showed great interest and interacted well. At 12:45 p.m., we had lunch and relaxed briefly. The day concluded at 4:15 p.m. after signing the evening attendance. It was a meaningful day that reminded me of the joy and responsibility that comes with being a teacher.

Day 3 - 17/07/2025

Today’s teaching practice was both engaging and productive. I reached school at 9:00 a.m. and signed the morning attendance. From 9:00 to 9:30 a.m., I was on line duty, which went smoothly. During the 2nd hour, I had a class with 8G, where I taught the remaining portion of the chapter “Little Things Matter” by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The students participated actively and showed genuine interest. I was also assigned noon meal duty and joined my colleagues at 12:20 p.m. The meal serving began at 12:40, and we had our lunch by 1:00 p.m. Later, I was given responsibility for supervising the വാങ്മയ പ്രതിഭ ഭാഷ പരീക്ഷ conducted at the school. It was a new and valuable experience. The day ended at 4:15 p.m. after signing the evening attendance. Overall, it was a fulfilling day of learning and responsibility.

Day 4 - 18/7/2025

Today’s teaching practice was quite different from usual. We arrived at school by 9:00 a.m. and signed the morning attendance as usual. However, due to a statewide strike, the school had very low attendance. Most students were absent, and the usual buzz of the morning was missing. We were assigned line duty, but it was completed quickly because only a few students were present.

I had the 7th hour with class 8G, but out of 36 students, only 3 had come. Instead of a formal lesson, I took the opportunity to interact with them informally. We talked about their interests, daily routines, and shared a few light moments. Though it wasn't a regular teaching session, the personal interaction was meaningful in its own way.

Since the strike affected the school schedule, we signed the evening attendance a bit early and left the school by 3:30 p.m. It was a calm and reflective day, offering a different kind of learning experience.
